Great clip from yesterday’s State of the Black Union footage in NOLA (via Baratunde):
If you know some of my other work, you’ll know why I love Gregory’s quote from way back:
“If these Mississippi white Klansmen, who do not know how to plan crimes, who are ignorant, illiterate bastards, can completely baffle our FBI, what are those brilliant Communist spies doing to us?”
I have quite a bit of personal issue with SOBU, because it often feels boiled down to sound-bites and snack-pack rhetoric — however, there are some (like Dick Gregory), that lay down the truth…and I can respect that.
Folks I've got them hungry blues
And nothin' in this to lose
People tellin' me to choose
Between dyin' and lyin' and
keep on cryin'
Tired of them hungry blues
Listen ain't you heard the news
There's another thing to choose
A brand new world
clean and fine
Where nobody's hungry
And there's no color line
A thing like that's worth
anybody dyin'
I ain't got a thing to lose
But them doggone hungry blues
My historical and investigative work involves travel, copy fees from archives and Freedom of Information Act requests, electronic equipment and other expenses. Donations of any size will help. Thanks!

I saw Dick Gregory in City Council Chambers fighting for the multi million dollar garbage contracts. Contracts that are about as transparent as mud.
2 weeks later when the demolition of Public Housing was on the agenda..not a soul came to speak.
So sad..
Interesting. What do you think he was doing there?
Great blog and photostream. You’re doing really important work. Your photo of CJ Peete is utterly depressing.
