I recommend a book to you which combines both a factual, expository component and a highly personal one, with the two very successfully intertwined. It is "The Midnight Disease: The Drive to Write, Writer's Block, and the Creative Brain" by Alice W. Flaherty. I'm hoping it will serve as both a model and an inspiration for you. Reading it blew my mind over and over.
